Erotic Alphabet

I thought the book of postcards was a swell idea, but this review makes me sort of sad. I haven't seen the book, but I guess all 26 of the covers were designed. What's wild is that EllaRegina just sent me an uber-cool wallet with the same image as this Flirt girl. I don't know if she got the gift on ETSY, but many ETSY artists do use these copyright free pin-up girls.

I still really wish that Cleis had simply put the series on hold rather than cancel the books outright. MNOP were pretty much finished when they pulled the plug, and although I have had two publishers talk with me about picking up the series, the concept feels odd. I wanted to finish them the way the started—with the whole look and design intact.

Still, I keep thinking of this scene in 28 Up (or 35 Up or 42 Up...). Tony—who was a jockey and then a bar owner and then a taxi driver and then an actor—had done all of these different jobs, but he hadn't succeeded much at any except at driving the cab. Basically, the reviewer bluntly asked if he felt like a failure, and he said something like, "I'd rather be a hasbeen than a never was." (I'll have to see the film again, so I can get the quote just right.) So I'm glad I at least tried, and that people seem to like the books that made it out the gate.

XXX,
Alison

Really... the fact that all of the books were designed, but I only got to showcase A through L. See? I'm so totally not Zen. I look ahead and look behind, but I completely miss the power of now. (Heh heh, the book given to me by the dryer repairman was a title by Eckhart Tolle).

XXX,
AT

P.S. Thanks, Hans.

Hi AT,
Yes. I say be proud of yourself, because we're all so proud of you for trying! I'm shaking my pom-poms. I also think when one door closes, another door opens. Often when the new door opens it's wider, has a larger knocker and the wood is thicker; stronger and harder. :-)

In other words...you just never know what's coming around the corner. Those remaining alphabet letters just might find a new home afterall.

And that's why I post blogs like this, even when they make me sound pathetic. Someone like NB will say something wise and make me feel better. :)

Tis a real shame that the series has been cancelled. I was looking forward to seeing what the other letters would stand for!

Well, if you buy their alphabet postcard book, you can see what the letters *would* have stood for! If I do get a chance to complete the series, I will go back to my original themes (as I may have mentioned before)...

I'm glad you like the wallet.

But you're neither a hasbeen nor a never was! Please don't think like that. It makes me sad! :-(

Just keep working on them, Alison.
I get very invested in plans too, though.

It's hard when they don't follow the path you envisioned. I never know what to do with the disappointment.
I don't think Echart Tolle is exactly self help.

Though I could be wrong about that.

Okay, Jo, so maybe it's not self-help. I really don't know! But you'll like this. He said, "Have you heard of Eckhart Tolle?" And I nodded, yes, thinking (oh, god, I'm blushing) of Umberto Eco.

There. I said it out loud.

Am looking forward to however the books emerge...and am thrilled that you started the series. Incidentally, I'm thinking of getting the postcard book and having the cards framed for our bedroom.

But the series is awesome, truly.

Love,
Raven

I really like the idea of the books. "A is for Amour" is the first AT book I bought. It took me a long time to decide which one to buy, but after that I couldn't wait to get the rest. I even bought some when I saw them in a bookstore in Thailand.
