Slave to Love - redux

All right. It wasn't Slave to Love — it was Avalon. My editor at the newspaper took me to Rhino Records (god, I hope I have the name right) and said, "Every girl should own a copy of Avalon." And yeah, this was back when vinyl was still king. Hell, this was back when newspaper editors were still kings.

I played the album endlessly on my record player in my nearly empty apartment. There is something about playing Roxy Music in a nearly empty apartment on a record player. A translucent quality — a shift in spirit, space, and time. Cueing the album up on your iPod doesn't compare — and I don't care how much of a luddite I sound like. There's the click and the hiss and the crackle you're missing.

Or maybe it's just me.

Come on. Tell me the name of an album that sounded better on vinyl.

You know what I mean, if you know what I mean.

XXX,
Alison
