Pounder, I Hardly Know Her...

I bought this meat tenderizer/brass knuckles gift for a chef friend. Is this not too cool for school? I found the item in one of my favorite gift stores — a place that reminds me of the Old Soap Plant on Melrose — a bit of this, a dash of that. The store also sold a knife sharpener that looked like... well, this. (I can't believe the search string I just used to find that!)

This has been a crazy week. Well, if I felt that Tuesday was Friday, you can imagine that today seems a whole lot like, um, Monday. That's okay. I like Mondays.

Oh, I keep forgetting. I have a story in Violet Blue's Sweet Confessions,, and the whole collection looks divine! If you'd like a copy signed by me, please share the best gift you ever gave... it doesn't have to be on a meat theme, or anything. Just something awesome you were proud to gift. I love giving presents, and I'm always interested in hearing new ideas! If you have a link to a site, be sure to include that, too.

I'm in this book, too! So I don't need to win a copy. But if I did win, I'd have a contest on my own blog and give it away.

Not sure if it would be the best gift I ever gave, but it would be groovy!

::happy to be in another book w/you::

So far, the best gift I've given was getting my mom an iPod Touch (loaded with a ton of books and audiobooks) for Christmas a couple years ago, right before she was going in for back surgery. It helped her through the recovery and rehab, and she's kept it with her constantly ever since.

The best gift that I can recall giving was a cookie cake that I decorated to look like the 8-bit (NES) Castlevania game. I spent hours on it. I also threw in Castlevania and vampire themed gifts like a vampire novel that featured us (you customized it with names and looks.

With the help of my sister and her friends I gave my husband my boobs in plaster. The idea was that it would be cool to see his face upon receiving boobs. He talks a lot about them. He looked happy.
The process of making the boobs was tricky though.

It wasn't really a gift in the tangible sense, but as we were packing the house to move as a result of my work, my wife was severely stressing out. I bought her a day at a local spa... I thought she was going to cry when I told her, and she was way calmer when she came back at the end of the day :)

The best gift I ever gave someone would probably be what I did for my husband's 30th birthday. He'd never had a birthday party in his life, so I threw him one! All of our friends were there and to top it all off I had managed to find him the perfect present: the limited edition boxed set of the original Battlestar Galactica series! He was totally floored by the whole event!!

I gave my wife an indoor picnic. When we were newlyweds, she'd gone to the tanning salon for the first time and had (according to the doctor) an allergic reaction to the process, which triggered when she got outside into the heat and sunlight.

Our day began, however, wonderfully. I got up early and ran one continuous string of yarn through the house. At various points I placed several small gifts (for instance, a bag of Hershey's kisses) with notes telling her how sweet she was and how much I loved her. The final gift was the picnic basket, packed and ready to go.

We drove to the park and got everything laid out. That's when she started to break out in red splotches and itch. I took her to the doctor and he told me to take her home and put her in a cold bath. She was upset and apologized all the way home.

Undeterred, while she followed doctor's orders, I set up the picnic on the sofa/foldout bed. When she got out of the bath, we still had our picnic - then made use of the foldout bed.
