"We had joy...we had fun..."

Recently, I was forced to admit (it was a "Truth or Dare" type situation) that the first 45 I ever bought was not Toni Basil's Mickey (as I like to say) or Metro by Berlin (as I often claim) but Seasons in the Sun by Terry Jacks.

No, really.

Maudlin little fuck, wasn't I?

And right now, while I should be finishing this deviant little BDSM story that's got me all kinds of wet, what I've been doing is playing a stack of 45s I snagged from the local Goodwill. (Why would anyone get rid of Frank Sinatra? Why?)

Do you remember your first? 45, that is.

Alison

Pretty sure my first was The Beatles' "A Hard Day's Night" / "Things We Said Today". I never had more than a handful of 45s though. Albums comprise the vast majority of my record collection.

Yep, it was Kiss You All Over, by Exile. Heh. Still love it today.

Bahaha, it was given to me, as a birthday present, and it was... Joanna, by Kool and the Gang! Blush*

Oh, I remember that song, Jo! And wow — to have the Beatles as a first 45 is so classy, CJ!

Saskia, do you still have the record? I'm slowly reconstructing my original record collection. I don't know how I lost so many of the albums over time. Every visit to a thrift store wins me new scores!

Any classiness on my part was poorly accidental, I assure you.

Saskia, I remember that song well. One of my favorite "dirty 70s" songs.

Lyrics today are often more explicit, but not necessarily any dirtier than they were back then. Plus, it was fun watching artists play the game, seeing what they could sneak past the censors and onto the radio.

Jefferson Starship anyone? "I had a taste of the real world; when I went down on you, girl..."

Alison, I do still have it -- amazing, when I think of the number of times I've moved. I don't have a huge amount of vinyl because I moved on to cassettes for convenience when I went to Uni, and now the cassettes have all been trashed but the boxes of vinyl still linger... :)

CJ, the Exile lyrics were great weren't they. And I can hear his voice (so gritty and somehow close and intimate, mmm) in my head at will. So sexy.
