The Reveal
Oh, joy, oh happy day! I've gotten the go-ahead to reveal that "Last Call" will be included in the exceptional Violet Blue's Best Women's Erotica 2013. I'm so fucking pleased. I swear, I never get over acceptances (or, you know, rejections). This one made my whole day/week/month/year — because it's a gang bang story and I worked like a fiend to make the piece fly. There were diagrams. There were character sketches. There was sweating.
Sometimes (for me) a story will simply arrive. I penned my piece for my new bondage collection last Sunday. I sat down and wrote a 4K before dawn. What happened was that I had been writing a little yarn that was happy and light and lovely, and entirely wrong for the book. Then I went onto a second piece that was dark, and sultry, and twisted, and too fucking long for the book by about 5K. I sighed and ranted and drank a little more coffee and fumed and snarled at my characters for not doing what I was telling them to do. (And there were whips and chains involved, and everything.)
Then I sat down and a whole story arrived in full form.
I tend to layer. I've talked about this before, I know. But I sketch in the framework — and then return for the details. That's how my stories tend to be written. That's what Last Call was like. (I think the story took me from October to March to write.)
But Broken was different. Wham bam, here I am. Front row center. First class flight. Buckle your seat belts, we're not stopping. I don't know which way I like better. Most of the time, I feel as if I'm simply going along for the ride.
XXX,
Alison

Congratulations on the acceptance, AT! And omcheez, how I did I not know about the layering post? Writing processes are utterly fascinating to me. I'm guessing the post was up well before I'd found your blog, but the years and blog posts blend after a while. Anyway, I hope you'll post more process-ey things in the future. You've got me curious about frameworks and layers. *_*
Hi Alison,
Just wanted to offer my congratulations on the BWE13 story and introduce myself as one of your fellow "acceptees" to the anthology. I'm fairly new to the whole process, but thrilled that I'm meeting fellow writers like you. Hopefully, I'll be submitting something to one of your anthologies very soon!
